What Is All-Star Cheer?

If you've only seen cheerleaders on the sidelines of football games, you might be surprised to learn that All-Star Cheer is a whole different world and it's one of the fastest-growing youth sports globally! At Fanci Footwork Dance & Cheer, we’re proud to offer All-Star Cheer as a dynamic, challenging and incredibly rewarding path for athletes of all ages and abilities.

So, what exactly is All-Star Cheer? Let’s break it down…

All-Star Cheer Is a Competitive Sport

Unlike sideline cheer, All-Star Cheer is performed on a sprung floor and judged at competitions. Teams train hard to perfect 2.5minute routines packed with tumbling, stunts, jumps, dance and pyramid skills. These routines are performed at local, national, and even international events.

It’s fast-paced, powerful and full of teamwork… there’s nothing quite like the energy on comp day!

A Routine with Four Core Elements

Every All-Star cheer routine includes four judged components:

  • Stunts: Groups lift, toss and catch athletes in gravity defying builds.

  • Tumbling: Acrobatic passes like cartwheels, walkovers, handsprings, tucks and more.

  • Jumps: Dynamic, sharp movements showcasing flexibility and explosive strength.

  • Dance: High-energy, precise choreography that ties it all together.

Each section is scored separately, and teams are always working toward higher difficulty and better execution.

It Builds Strength, Skill, and Resilience

All-Star Cheer combines multiple disciplines: gymnastics, dance, strength training, acrobatics and performance. Athletes learn skills such as:

  • Back handsprings and tucks (tumbling)

  • Group lifts and throws (stunting)

  • Sharp, precise arm motions (dance/cheer components)

  • Flexibility and strength (jumps and body positions)

Just as importantly, they also develop resilience, teamwork, trust and confidence. Athletes set and crush goals constantly… whether it's achieving a new tumble pass, mastering a new stunt grip or earning a personal "no bobble" in a stunt or pyramid.

It’s Divided by Levels and Age

One of the most supportive parts of All-Star Cheer is its structure. Teams are not just grouped by age but by skill level. This means athletes are placed where they can grow safely and steadily.

At Fanci, our cheer athletes compete in divisions like:

  • Novice: Entry-level, confidence-building

  • Level 1-2: Foundation and development

  • Level 3-4: Intermediate to advanced skills

  • Level 4.2: Advanced stunting with less tumbling

  • Level 5+: Elite skill levels for highly experienced athletes

  • All-Abilities: Inclusive cheer teams for athletes with additional needs

There truly is a place for everyone.

It’s About Community and Connection

Yes, All-Star Cheer is a sport but it’s also a family. The bond between teammates is powerful. You have to trust your group to catch you mid-air, lift you into stunts or back you up during the pressure of a “fullout”.

At Fanci, our cheer athletes often describe their teams as their second family. They learn what it means to work hard for each other and celebrate wins together.

It Has Big Aspirations (and Bigger Life Lessons)

All-Star Cheer teams can compete at major national events like and some teams even qualify to compete internationally, like at The Summit, Worlds or AIA Global Tournament

But even more important than the trophies? The life skills. Our athletes walk away with:

  • Unshakable confidence

  • Discipline and time management

  • Empathy, teamwork and mental grit

  • A healthy approach to setting goals and working towards them consistently
